Oat Milk Recipe

Plant-based ‘milks’ – so many to choose from! But, do your research – almond milk has high water usage (and is mostly from California who has been in drought for years) and soy milk has higher gas emissions. The overall winner in sustainability is oat milk, so here’s a recipe to give it a try:

Ingredients

½ cup oats
3 cups filtered water
pinch of salt
maple syrup (optional)
vanilla (optional)

Method

Put the water and oats in a blender and whizz for 30 seconds then pour through a fine metal strainer. Don’t push down on what’s left in the strainer, it will make your milk gritty.
If you want it to be very smooth you can strain it again or even strain it through a fine tea towel or clean tea shirt.
Put into a jar and store in the fridge, it will keep for 3 to 4 days.
